Welcome to Oculus Arcanum!
Oculus is a steam-punk themed table-top skirmish game with a unique twist – the creatures of myth which humanity found so quaint in its fairy tales just turned out to be real!
The year is 1879, just five years after the startling event known as the Conjunction when three parallel Earths were discovered as dozens of gates ripped open between them.
Scholars of Victorian Britain refer to these portals as Oculus Arcana – meaning literally Arcane Windows.
But this is not the steam-age of your Earth, since the modern steam engine in Oculus Arcanum was developed in 1700 by Sir Isaac Newton as a means to defend London from another great fire.
The discovery of radium and the pioneering work of Thomas Edison in harnessing it also set the steam-age off on a faster technological curve and in a different direction.
Needless to say, the rediscovery of magic as a primary force of the world was also a revelation with strong repercussions.
Oculus Arcanum is a world of adventure, teeming with opportunity as each of the major factions within each of the races seeks to gain an edge by stealing technology from each other or forging useful alliances. Humans, Dwarves, Elves and Orcs compete in a new age of monumental discovery.
Humanity is reeling as the institutions of the church and state come into question, and great nations like the United States and the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapse, causing a political domino cascade. Nihilists proclaim the end of the world, while many Catholics believe the Rapture is upon them. More level-headed ladies and gentlemen don their radium power-packs and mechanical prosthetics, then drive their steam-cars to the nearest dirigible air-port to get passage to a newly discovered oculus portal.
The Dwarven realm has already launched mining operations is dozens of locations across 4 parallels, although far ahead of humans in structural engineering, geology, explosives and microbiology, they are still a few decades behind in electro-mechanics. Old-guard nobles and nouveau-riche families dispatch teams of cartographers, geologists and technology thieves to multiple dimensions to reap the rewards first in a race of clan against clan.
Having suffered a long stall in their metamorphic evolution, the Elves see this momentous event as an opportunity to reinvigorate their decadent culture by consuming the spiritual energy of human captives. Others see recent events as offering an alternative culture, causing them to renounce the cultural imperative of physical and mental evolution. A young generation of Elves is rejecting week-long bouts of deep meditation in favour of carpe diem. In both cases, the masters of the crystal cities of the Elven parallel look at the bigger picture and see the four parallels as chess boards on which to play their games of political domination and create a new world order.
Meanwhile the nomadic tribes of Orcs are on the move, crossing dimension after dimension in search of the Omphalos – the navel of the world, in order to gain invincible power. Having not discovered it so far upon their own parallel, most shamans feel it must reside on one of the alternate dimensions, or perhaps fragments of it exist in each of the parallels. Their recent incursion into North America during the endless civil war which has been raging since 1860 has brought the Unions and Confederate states into near collapse as they scramble to divert forces west.
Oculus Arcanum is a world where every year brings forth a new invention, and now with new technologies and ideas, who knows what tomorrow will bring.
One thing is for certain, there are treasures for the taking, empires for the breaking and worlds for the shaking by those brave individuals who make the leap through the Oculus Arcanum.
Welcome to a new world!
“Oculus Arcanum” is an original setting developed to be an open world, in it we are building games and many cross-media products.
The starting setting contains:
“Steam Sharks” is an exploration game for 1 – 4 players. Playing the roles of infamous sea wolves, you will embark on submarines in search of the remnants of Atlantis. As the depths become oppressive and the persistent darkness surrounds you, you can achieve your goal or uncovering civilizations of nightmares. Only one will return with the remnants and will be remembered for centuries to come.
“Dirty Deeds” is a chess-style game designed for 2-3 players. Taking command of a special forces unit, you will be tasked with expanding the dominion of your nation across both this world and all parallel dimensions. Gather resources, fend off rivals, and adapt to alien landscapes for the glory of the crown!
While the world’s powerful seek to extend their dominion across all dimensions, the lower echelons of society are left with no choice but to toil in the mines for that essential coal. Faster, faster. With ingenuity, labor becomes less harsh and much more enjoyable! “Mines’n Drift” is a racing game where you’ll pilot specially modified mining carts! A family game of speed and mischievous actions to reach the finish line.
A collection of miniatures and gadgets built from character and world design.
An anthology of secret reports sent by spies to chancelleries, where you can read the reality witnessed in those years.
